It was in 1918 when Levi Strauss & Co. created the Freedom-Alls, a one-piece garment, a work jumpsuit, that now celebrates its 100th birthday.

Specifically, on October 22, 1918, Levi Strauss & Co. obtained the Freedom-Alls brand, a name already very revealing (the word “Freedom” is Freedom, in this case both physically and metaphorically) that included the first item of clothing that The company designed specifically for women. An era that coincided with the empowerment of women, as they began to run for public office and challenged conventional gender norms, especially in the American West.

Emma McClendon, Associate Manager of the Museum at the Institute of Fashion Technology explains that: “The history of jeans is often told as a story for men but this is a story of women wearing unconventional clothes, and also a story on freedom and empowerment. ”
