2018 is a favorable year for Xiaomi because it seems that the internationalization of its products last year already gives real results, beyond forecasts. The Chinese manufacturer has not stopped growing in the world market, and is already allowed to look up to Apple, because the Americans were recently overtaken by Huawei, who had long been giving notice that could get placed in second position.
All this only contributes to the economic health of the Chinese manufacturer, which has already acquired the Black Shark brand with which it put into circulation its first and second gaming telephone, and which has now acquired Meitu, a Chinese manufacturer specialized not only in phones for selfies, but also in apps designed to enhance these photographs.
Telephones, app and patents, all for Xiaomi
Meitu is not a particularly relevant phone manufacturer, but it has to its credit with many patents of effects and methods of retouching for self-portraits. Not in vain, has its own application, which incidentally was involved in some controversy at the time to send data from users of your app to your servers in China.
In addition to his app, Meitu also manufactures telephones whose main attraction is that of self-portraits. Telephones with powerful front cameras, dressed with the effects of brand processing of the house, and preparing to receive a new brother, one that has already been filtered with three cameras on the front. This next phone will be launched already, therefore, under the umbrella of Xiaomi, its new buyer.
The phones of Meitu and its software are already owned by Xiaomi, now we need to check what will happen with the brand
But as we said, Meitu has not been until now a phone manufacturer too relevant except for its specialization. The Chinese manufacturer accumulated three and a half million phones sold in the five years in which he has been building phones, and it was rumored that he was sitting at the table with Xiaomi to consider options for growth in the future.
In a first step of the agreement, Xiaomi will pay to Meitu a percentage of the profits with their telephones, being able to pass to a general payment, a flat rate, as soon as a number of general sales is exceeded, or after five years after having closed the present agreement. It is not ruled out that the company will be completely controlled by Xiaomi.
In case this comes, the two options are to join Xiaomi, Pocophone and Black Shark as a fourth stiletto with which to attack the market, or to be founded with Xiaomi, joining the company’s main telephones. And who knows, maybe Meitu’s selfies process app will soon be integrated into every Xiaomi that leaves its factories.
